On October 3, 2023, I had the honor of giving back by volunteering at the Oregon Food Bank side by side with some of my fellow colleagues. Phoebe, Eileen and Kris shared in this awesome but chilly experience. A big thank you to Eileen who organized the day and Evergreen for allowing us the time to give back to our community.

It was potato day! Frozen potatoes to be exact. Thousands of pounds of frozen potatoes. Which meant we were working in the cooler. It was a little chilly but nothing unbearable and they provided everything you needed. As you can see from the pictures provided OFB was very serious about contamination and food safety. They provided all the appropriate attire and made it very clear and simple what everyone can do to help prevent any contamination of the donated food.

We spent about 4 hours scooping the frozen potatoes into a plastic bag and then loading boxes full of the loaded plastic bags and prepped them to be hauled off to other locations around the state.

After everything was said and done we can be proud to say in just one day we helped:

Repack 4629 pounds

Contributed 3857 meals to those in need which breaks down to about 175 meals per volunteer.

It was a great opportunity to get to know my co-workers a little better and feel a little more connected to our community.  It was an amazing experience and I strongly suggest everyone take the time to give back.

We rise by lifting others.
