On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, a truce between the Allied Nations and Germany went into effect following World War I. Armistice Day was enacted to commemorate this historic time as the conclusion of the “war to end all wars”. The first Veteran’s Day celebration was held in 1947 In Birmingham, Alabama and since then we have honored Veteran’s Day – to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good of the citizens of the United States of America. This year, we reflect on whether we are doing enough as a company, as coworkers, and as a people for veterans… What can we do for them to truly show our appreciation for their sacrifice and dedication?
The millions of brave men and women that have given their years of service have done so for a variety of reasons. Just to name a few; serving their country, enabling peace, learning discipline, continuing family tradition, and gaining new skills and expertise. Truth is, you don’t have to look far to discover that we all have someone in our homes and offices who answered the call.
As a B Corp, Evergreen strives to meet our client’s needs and bolster the greater community we all reside within. The millions of Veterans in the United States exemplify the same core values that guide us as Evergreeners. Recognizing these Veterans and providing the support and space they need to thrive is a mission of ours.
When you think about a Veteran, what comes to mind? Do Veterans define themselves as only servicemen and servicewomen, or is there more to them that we should look to recognize?
Veterans face many challenges out in the world as a civilian that can often go overlooked. Many Veterans face homelessness, unemployment, trouble adapting to civilian life, and physical or mental disabilities. It is our duty to alleviate the pains these heroes face and as an organization, Evergreen feels that we are up to the task to answer the call.
